International Foundation Programme 

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is designed for students who have completed high school or partial university education overseas and need additional support to prepare for a successful transition into academic studies at bachelor’s level at London Metropolitan University.

This programme will help students:

Prepare for Level 4 (bachelor’s) study through the acquisition of academic skills and knowledge

Develop as an independent, reflective learner 

Self-management

Develop effective self-management and personal awareness skills 

Subject Knowledge

become equipped with subject knowledge critical for successful higher education study 

Learning Technologies

become an active user of learning technologies widely used in the UK higher education environment 

Duration

This is a two-semester-long programme, with each semester lasting 15 weeks.

Entry Requirements

  • UKVI IELTS 5.0 no individual element lower than 4.5

  • successful completion of senior high school or equivalent

  • successful evidence of educational achievement in the country of origin equivalent to a UK Year 12 (leaving certificate is required)

If you're from a majority English-speaking country you may be exempt from the language requirement.

Course Structure

1

Semester 1

Academic Preparation Programme 
Part 1

This module focuses on developing academic language skills while developing subject-specific knowledge in your chosen subject area in preparation for bachelor's-level study

The APP1 module focuses on the following skills:

  • Academic Reading

  • Academic Listening

  • Academic Writing Theory and Practice

  • Academic Speaking and Presentations

  • Academic Grammar and Vocabulary in Context

60 CREDITS

2

Semester 2

Academic Preparation Programme 
Part 2

This module constitutes units around subject-specific weekly themes and aims to develop discipline-specific knowledge further while embedding these in the academic skills and literacies needed for bachelor's-level study in the UK.

The APP2 module focuses on the following skills:

  • Academic Reading

  • Academic Listening

  • Academic Writing Theory and Practice

  • Academic Speaking and Presentations

  • Research Skills

  • Academic Grammar and Vocabulary in Context

60 CREDITS
